About us
Connecting Children Through Languages and Stories
SomaBooks is an independent micro publishing house based in Stockholm, Sweden, with a unique focus on bilingual and multilingual books for children and young adults. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to see their language, culture, and experiences reflected in the books they read.
Our mission is to create a culture of reading and to empower and strengthen our communities through the joy and learning of reading. We publish books that inspire curiosity, encourage a lifelong love of reading, and support children in developing strong language skills.
Language is a powerful tool for learning, identity, and participation. Through language, children learn to express their thoughts and feelings, build confidence, share their voices, and take an active role in society. Bilingual books provide children with the opportunity to develop both their home language and the language of the society they live in, creating meaningful connections between cultures, families, and generations.
SomaBooks specializes in publishing high-quality bilingual children’s literature in a wide range of languages, including Somali, Swedish, Arabic, Tigrinya, Amharic, Swahili, and Persian. By bringing two or more languages together in the same book, we create unique reading experiences that celebrate diversity, strengthen multilingual identities, and support children and families from different backgrounds.
One of our special areas of focus is introducing Swedish children’s literature to multilingual readers through translation and bilingual editions. We are proud to work with stories from some of Sweden’s most beloved children’s authors, including Astrid Lindgren, creator of the internationally loved character Pippi Longstocking, and Sven Nordqvist, creator of the beloved books about Pettson and Findus. Through our multilingual editions, these timeless stories become accessible to new generations of readers around the world.
SomaBooks serves children and families in Sweden and other Nordic countries, while also reaching multilingual communities internationally. We believe that books have the power to connect people, preserve languages, strengthen identities, and build understanding across cultures.
As a multilingual publishing house, SomaBooks is committed to making children’s literature more inclusive and ensuring that every child can experience the joy of reading in a language that feels close to their heart. Through bilingual books, we build bridges between languages, cultures, and communities.
